Question of the Week: Evolution, Environment and You!

Describe a situation in which you learned something and "got it" with ease. Compare and contrast your evolutionary predisposition to learning the task easily with the environmental factor which may also have influenced your learning. In constructing you analysis consider the following:

- Why might easily acquiring the ability to do the task be [naturally] selected for over evolutionary time

- How easily did close relatives of yours aquire the ability to do the task? How about people of similar ethnic background? What do you think is the significance of these relationships (or lack of relationships)?

- What key key environmental factors where present leading up to the time when you learned the task? Would you expect these factors to promote or hinder learning?

- Were there other people (unrelated to you) that were influenced by a similar environment that learning task found the learning task either simple or extremely difficult? How might this data play in to the balance between genetics and environment?
